PP #44: To Young (Z)Americans...

Hey, I know you’re busy doing like, young people stuff, and, you should be. Like the old song says, it’s summertime, and the livin’ is easy (I hope). This is the free time in your life before you get sucked into the cycle of mortgages, bills, kids, careers. Or, maybe you’re early in that game. But, gimme a minute if you can, it’s important. Toward the end, I’ll tell you how to shape your utopia.
Cuz, I want all your youthful idealism, hope, and exuberance to be for real. As bad as that stuff I just said about mid-adult life sounds, it’s really not. It might be hard at times, but you’ll miss every minute of it when you get to be my age. Ask your gramps, serious now. It’s actually a long, beautiful kaleidoscopic journey through life, especially in a free country like our wonderful USA. You’re probably aware of what life is like for people like you in places like Gaza, Russia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia. Quite different, and not in a good way.
Young people in those countries have no power to change anything. Their only choice is suffering through it all. It doesn’t have to be that way for you, but sadly, that’s the way it’s going. You have power (for now). It doesn’t take much to save yourselves—there are so many of you! It takes everyone doing just a little. I’ll explain in more detail shortly.
You see, kids (I’m old AF, so I get to call everyone “kids”), the idea right now is for you to live like those oppressed young people in those other countries. And worse, your children if you have any, and worse than that even, your grandchildren. The problem is, apparently most of these ridiculous, cranky-ass old people you’ve been dealing with in school, maybe at home, wherever, now want to cram a really messed up lifestyle down your throat, without any choice, like, forever. They want to take away your freedoms, your joy, your life.
I know it’s hard to pay attention to all the messed up stuff old people are up to. You’d rather just have fun and be patient until it’s your turn to take over the world, cuz that’s how it’s always worked, we all got to have that. They know this. They see the trending—how many of you there are, how against their hateful garbage you are, how tolerant you are. They haven’t won the popular vote in decades, so, they’re in a hurry to rig the game against you, before you can enjoy what you earned and fix this mess.
If you’re not up on things, the TL;DR is that the skids are being greased to end our 250 year old beautiful messy melting pot of a democracy and install an autocrat leader and theology-based government. Every barrier, every guardrail to prevent this, is being demolished. The plan is to make the USA a fundamentalist evangelical Christian version of Saudi Arabia. You know, the place where females have to cover in black head to toe in 100 degree heat. They even had the stones to write it all up and wave it around in public, because they’re so confident this is all in the bag. Read on it, Project 2025.
For real, here’s what it’s all about, at least the parts they’re telling us now (they say there’s even more we won’t see till “later!”) Much of the below is clearly stated in the Project 2025 document (which the Republican party and Trump have fully endorsed and participated in the design of), other parts of this are inferred in their various stated policy documents, statements in interviews, and hacked info.
If you’re a female, you will take a back seat in virtually every way to anyone born as a dude, and your government will make decisions about what you can do with your body, even if you be dyin’
Your socials will be over, for sure and for real, only approved and heavily state-surveilled communications permitted (no tikky no tokky)
Your manner of dress will be far more modest—only outfits approved by the state
You popping off with your opinion on stuff, will be, you guessed it—over (unless you like prison)
The music and arts you may enjoy will be heavily censored and highly religiosity in nature
You will spend your life in mass migration as your planet is burned to a cinder and flooded randomly as they suck it dry for corporate profits
If you’re middle class, you’ll be pushed down into a lower-class, so you have no economic power to change any of this—you is either a “have” or a “have not”
If you vote, well, that shit is going to be over, goes without saying, we doing autocracy now, try to keep up
If you’re any kind of “other,” including loving other, skin color other than white, religious other than fundamentalist evangelical Christian (the hateful type, not the actual nice kind like Jesus was), you will be sent away, or subject to “reprogramming,” or pushed to the shadows
You WILL be a devout fundamentalist Christian (the hateful type, not the actual nice kind like Jesus was)
The good news is if you’re a wealthy, white, straight, male, fundamentalist evangelical Christian (the hateful type, not the actual nice kind like Jesus was), you all good, brah!! Otherwise, it’s kind of like that show where the Amish kids get to leave their plain, austere lifestyle and go nuts for a while (aka be like you) but in reverse, and permanently.
The problem is, we have monsters now. Like the kind you always imagined under your bed, but this time, for real. That sucks, but don’t be afraid. Like all monsters, they’re not all that, not what they seem, and they can be sent away, defeated.
That 20-year old kid was probably thinking about this when he decided to take his shot on Saturday. It was the wrong thing to do. Violence isn’t the answer. Usually, like in his case, it makes things worse. He gave his life. What you should do, is stand up. It’s your world, after all. Us old people are just living in it, taking up space, slow-drivin’, too many of us screwing it all up with our decrepit brains, bodies, and morals. Here’s another good old guy, making a strong case for you.
Want to slay this BS? You only need donate a few minutes of your time every once in a while. You can do quite a bit from home, a few minutes here and there. Find some orgs that are passionate and involved, they’ll guide you. Young Democrats, Indivisible, Swing Left, there’s a bunch. You guys are better than me at this stuff. Get out and protest (safely, non-violently). Educate on this. Make some noise. Make good trouble. Make your voice heard. Educate your peers, get them all registered and vote by mail if you can.
This happened in the 60s when young people got fed up about old people screwing up their world. They made a difference, until the movement got sidetracked by excess. Don’t make that mistake. The Occupy movement in more recent times made a difference before it fizzled. Everything is at stake now for you. Too many fought and died for you to be free. It’s your world, don’t let anyone screw it up on you. From what I’ve seen of your generation, you’re damn smart, compassionate, creative, and fully capable of putting this movement down.
And after that, please make our species the civilized, ethical, kind, compassionate, tolerant, non-hateful, non-greedy beings that we’re capable of being. Like that nice Jesus asked us to be. I’m sure there aren’t many of you on Substack, so maybe you can be the new, young leader we desperately need, share this on your socials, spread the word, Go!
